From Michigan to Jacksonville

The Share the Dream Tour was a tremendous hit! We drove up to Houghton, Mich., on Sunday (a 10-hour drive!). On Monday Angela Ruggiero and I visited Calumet School to talk to the students about getting physically active, setting goals and following their dreams.
That evening we had our last clinic. I had a great time talking to the kids and their parents and getting everyone to walk on the high beam, yes, everyone! It was fun watching those new to the sport realize just how skinny the balance beam really is.
Later that night a snowstorm hit the area and my flight was canceled. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem but I had to be in Jacksonville, Fla., by Wednesday morning for a speech!! After trying every airport and every scenario I finally decided that there was only one thing to do. Get out before the big snow hit!

Cheryl Haworth, Sheila Taormina, Sheila’s brother Mark and I decided we needed to get out or there was no way I was going to get back to Florida. Cheryl was flying out of Detroit and I booked a flight from Chicago. We left at midnight and drove about nine hours to get to O’Hare. I was running through the airport and made my flight by about two minutes.
I was so happy to make it back in time for my event. Wednesday I was the keynote speaker at the Convention and Visitors Bureau in Jacksonville (now ‘Visit Jacksonville’). Today I’m headed out to Philadelphia to promote the U.S. Olympic trials being held at the Wachovia Center from June 19-22. World champion team member Sean Golden and I will be doing media and gym club visits to promote the competition.
Saturday I’ll head back to Jacksonville and go straight to the Rick Wilkins Foundation dinner and silent auction. Rick holds an incredible golf tournament and dinner/auction that raises money for adults with disabilities. It?s a busy few weeks but I’ll keep you posted.
