“Olympic Week”

Well, last week was “Olympic Week” and what better way to cap it off than a trip to Chicago to be a panelist at a Chicago 2016 Bid Committee gathering. We had a great time talking about the Olympics and the Olympic experience. I also did an interview for the USOC Hall of Fame induction for the Mag 7 coming up June 19th. It was fun (and emotional) to look back on all of our careers. It’s amazing how fast time flies.

Not to completely toot my own horn, but last week it was also announced that I’ll be inducted into the Women’s International Sports Hall of Fame at the Sports Museum of America on June 9th. I am so excited and so appreciative of all of the people in my life that helped me succeed in my career. So I’d like to think of it as less as a Hall of Fame induction for me and more of a “thank you” to all of those who helped me get here; my coaches, parents, community and certainly the fans. Thank you.

This is a down week for me so I’m looking forward to catching up on paperwork and working out. I was in the gym (gymnastics gym) last week for the first time in ages and it felt great! Well, not so great the next day, but it was still fun to be back up on the beam. This week I’ll tackle some basic skills and keep working on flexibility, ughh.

I’ll also be catching up with the Men’s European Championships. Europeans is always a good indicator of what to watch in the upcoming Olympics. Although we still have to factor in the US, China and of course Japan.

And this weekend I’ll be heading to Orlando to help hand out awards and sign autographs at the JO Nationals. But mostly this week I get to enjoy being home and celebrating today with my in-laws. (I celebrated earlier with my parents in Oklahoma).

Happy Mother’s Day!!
