NASCAR drivers take bodine bobsleds for a test drive
There’a a unique bobsled race taking place this weekend in Lake Placid, NY. Ten former and current NASCAR Busch and Nextel Cup drivers will take part in the second Chevrolet Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge from Friday - Monday.
The race is organized by Bodine, the former NASCAR champion who has supported bobsledding since 1992. A few weeks after watching the United States perform at the Olympic Winter Games that year in France, Bodine — who won the 1986 Daytona 500 and 18 other NASCAR races — started Bo-Dyn Bobsleds after he noticed all U.S. sleds were made outside the country. Now, the company makes all nine U.S. competitive sleds.
At the race in Lake Placid, the drivers will not use the standard Bo-Dyn sleds. They will instead begin from the two-thirds start in training sleds that will still see speeds of 50 miles per hour. The sleds will be painted in the colors and with the sponsors of each driver.
Drivers expected to take part include Todd Bodine, Kevin Lapage and Bill Parsons, The event raises money for the Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project, which supports U.S. bobsled efforts.
The Speed Channel will broadcast the event Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
