Giving you all the dirt on the World Cup circuit

It is Nov. 21. This morning I left my house in Truckee, Calif., at 4:30 a.m. to catch a United flight out of Reno that will get me in to Calgary sometime this afternoon. From Calgary I will hop into a mini-van with my teammates and drive a couple of hours up to Lake Louise. We will check into our four-star hotel called the Chateaux.
This will be our home for the next five days, and it also marks the beginning of the four-month road trip that we call winter.
My name is Marco Sullivan, and I am a world cup ski racer.
I specialize in downhill and super-G because small, quick turns do not agree with me. I stand six feet tall and weigh 210 pounds, and I try not to miss too many desserts if I can help it. I have reached a point in my career where it is now a full-time job. I make enough money through sponsors and prize money to be able to pay my mortgage and even shop for groceries every once in a while.
Because we are doing what we love and getting to legally take outrageous risks on the ski hill, my teammates and I often refer to what we do as “Living the Dream.”
This winter, I will be giving you a little insight into what goes on behind the scenes of this traveling circus that we call the FIS World Cup.
I can give you dirt on your favorite ski racers and tell you how it feels to stand in the start gate at Kitzbuhel on a foggy day. This is my life, I am just boarding the roller coaster for another season and I hope that I can bring you all along for the ride.
My plane is touching down in Calgary so I have to run, but I will check back in later this week, and give you the goods on what is going down at our first downhill of the season.
