The Games
The meet has been underway for a few days now, and I have been pretty busy. I have had seven races thus far. I have three more to go. I also have something new to look forward to because Beth is on her way to Rio right now. She is going to arrive in time to see my last race, the 1,500. She only gets to see one race, but it’s a long one.
In my first finals session I won two silver medals. I was second in the 400 IM and I was on the 800 free relay that was second. It was exciting to be on my first international relay, but I wish that we could have won. I thought that the relay did pretty well though. None of us had ever been on a relay at an international competition of this level before.
Since those races I have had a couple challenging sessions. Two consecutive sessions I raced the 200 free and 200 IM. I made it through the prelims and semifinals. In my prelim session I only had about 10 minutes between the two races. It was just enough time for our massage therapist to shake my legs out before I got back up on the blocks. The second session, which was today, I had a little more time, about 30 minutes. But it takes a long time to get from the pool deck to the warm down pool and back so I still didn’t have enough time to warm down between races. I had another session with the massage therapist and was able to successfully make it to finals in both my races. I was pleased because I’m primarily a distance swimmer and those are two shorter events. I also have never had to do races without warm down at a major competition before. Tomorrow morning I have the final of both races.
It is getting late so I have to get ready to sleep. Tomorrow should be a fun day.
Go USA!!!
