From the Pool

Weekend

It was a rough week of training.  I have been so sore and tired that I was getting a little frustrated with my practice times.  I really looked forward to doing some things I haven’t done in a while this weekend.  It is good for me to sometimes take a step back and relax.  I tend to be a little intense about training at times and I don’t like it when I’m not swimming at my optimal speed.

It has been a beautiful weekend and I wanted to spend some time outdoors.  So on Saturday I decided to go to the range and hit some golf balls.  I am not much of a golfer and I’ve only been on courses a few times but I like to go to the range and just hit a few balls every now and then.  I haven’t done it in a long time though because the weather has been cold.  It was a lot of fun and I hit the ball much better than I expected since I don’t normally hit well even when I practice more frequently.

Then at night I went to the bowling alley with Beth and a few friends.  We played 3 games and I won the first 2.  Then I guess I hit my limit because I got annihilated on the last game.  After the last game I remembered why it is that I don’t bowl more often.  It is not quite as cheap as I think it should be.  At over $4 a game it is a little out of control.  I remember back when I was in high school there were specials to bowl for $1 per game.  I would bowl more often if that were the case in Athens.  Despite the price it was a fun evening.

Now Sunday is just a day of total relaxation before the week ahead.  I’ve done a little reading and bought a couple new books.  I’ve been excited lately about Chuck Palahniuk.  He wrote Fight Club, the book that the movie was based off.  I recently heard about another of his books called Choke and started reading it.  I’m only about halfway through that but I like it so far and today I bought a couple more of his books.  Word to the wise though that these books are definitely rated “R”.  Have a great week.
