Conference
This weekend featured the beginning of conference swimming championships. The Georgia team was away at the Southeastern Conference meet in Alabama. It was kind of nice at the pool to have plenty of lane space since we only had our post grad swimmers and a couple college kids that are resting for the last chance meet next weekend here in Athens.
My friend Matt Owen always likes to swim warm up fast in practice. He has for years. I decided this week that I would entertain myself by trying to keep up with him. It was very challenging and made practice a lot more painful. I’m not sure that I am cut out to sprint warm ups. Sometimes you just have to do something new to switch it up a little.
Atlantic Coast Conference swimming was going on this weekend in Atlanta. Mary Descenza’s sister, Patty swims for Maryland so she was at the meet. So a few of us went down to Atlanta to cheer for Patty in her 200 fly Saturday night. We were glad to be there and cheer Patty on while she had a great swim.
Monday the college kids will be back and things will get back to normal in Athens. We will be back to sharing lanes and getting some work done. They will start to prepare for NCAAs and I will continue to get ready for Short Course Worlds in April.
