Back in the Swing
After getting back from Short Course Worlds I took a few days to get back into the time zone and back into training. My coach and I thought it would be a good plan to take last week and work some dryland pretty hard, but get some sleep. So I didn’t do any morning practices but I ran, biked and did dryland drills pretty hard. I also gradually swam more in the afternoons as the week went on. It has been pretty painful. It doesn’t really matter how much rest I get for a meet, it is always pretty painful getting back into training. This time is especially painful because we are entering the last hard-core training phase before Olympic trials.
This week is actually still a tiny bit less than a normal week for me. Next week is back to full yardage. Probably the most exciting part of this is that we are finally moving to primarily long course training. During the school year, we do long course but not as much as I would like. This is a great time of year. We have trials to look forward to, the weather is getting warmer, and I get as much long course training as I want. All I could ask for is a little outdoor training to top it off. I’ll take training in one of the best facilities in the country if I can’t have outdoor training though.
