From the Pool

Twilight

Every April there is a bike race in downtown Athens. It is called the Twilight Criterium. It is one of the biggest events yearly in Athens. Our entire downtown area gets shut off for cyclists to race around. All the bars take tents out in the street and there is food and drink everywhere. People line the streets and cheer for the cyclists. There are races all day long but the main men’s race doesn’t start until around nine at night. It makes for a very fun Saturday. We didn’t stay for the whole men’s race because it was a long day that started with a pretty tough 3-hour practice.

It was a pretty good practice. Our main set was 6 x 150 off the blocks. People did different things but I did 4 of them fly and 2 free. We had about 200 easy swim between each time off the blocks. I didn’t have much speed and my times weren’t impressive enough to share but I finished each one well. I’m pretty sure my last 50 was my fastest 50 on each one. I still need to continue to work on speed but it is always a good thing to finish strong no matter what.
