Dodging jail time in Australia

Image Title

So I am finally here in Melbourne. There was some significant excitement for me at customs. Apparently the narcotics dog took an interest in one of my bags and so while the rest of the team went off to the buses, I got taken back for a little personal screening. I was having flashbacks to that second Bridget Jones’s Diary movie where someone uses her bags to smuggle drugs and she ends up in a foreign jail for a couple of months until Marc Darcy can come and get her out. But it all turned out well in the end and after emptying out my bags and finding nothing, I was allowed get on the bus with the team.

Good Luck!! GO TEAM USA!! I was at US Open when you were disqualified, and I admire you so much because of the way you handled yourself. It really teaches young athletes how to react well in a tough situation, and keep going on to find a solution!!

Sam is apparently an ass, who thinks he knows more about swimming then most officials do…
I would love to have Mr. Darcy come save me from prison, actually i would just love to have Mr. Darcy…period.
You realize that the look you are giving the camera is the same one you give me after i have said something stupid…

Last time I saw Tara swim she had made big corrections and her stroke looked perfectly legal and very fast. I predict she’ll be lethal in Melbourne.

Wow. Interesting conversation - what a way to start out.

Tara - good luck in Melbourne! And, hey, there are worse places you could be jailed… rumor has it that you would have shared a cell with Sylvester Stallone :-)

Sam - You are entitled to your opinions, in fact I welcome them, but is this the right forum? Probably not.

I’ll be cheering for you in Melbourne Tara. I will be the one is red, white, and blue. I have enjoyed seeing you swim for Team USA over the past few years.

Not a chance against Leisel Jones all the best though

  7. Dana Says:

    Dude,
If the top guys at USA swimming were really concerned then they would be doing something about it. Who are you to question a swimmer of her caliber? She made this team, she has made many, many other international teams. If you are really this concerned about it then go, figure out how to become an official, and disqualify her next time. But remember, select photos don’t disqualify people.
Are you sure this is the forum where you what to act like this? There are many other, much more obvious, examples of people who ’should’ have been disqualified and weren’t. Men’s 100 breaststroke athens, and look at this, the use of one dolphin kick is legal…
Now take a lesson from Bambi… if you don’t have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all. (or find a nicer way to say what you mean.)

Sam - I’m the owner of Brendan Hansen Online and I took the photos of which you speak. That was NOT the last time I saw Tara compete. Those were taken last season at Santa Clara and Nationals. I’ve since seen Tara swim at the Long Beach Grand Prix and her elbows stayed below the water line. It’s obvious that she’s put a lot of work in to make what must be a difficult correction and you should acknowledge her effort to do so.

    Dear Tara,

Hi, my name is Katherine and I am 11 years old. You are a very good swimmer and I think you don’t break the rules. You are very pretty and very smart too. I want to swim breastroke at Stanford when I get older. You and your sister Dana are my faverite Olympians. I hope you swim fast and win. Could I please have a autograph? That would be very nice.

    Sincerely,
    Katherine

    Hi Tara,
You’re the best and Dana rocks!

Glad it went well in the end. If you gave the guy ‘THAT’ look, no wonder. I think they just wanted to get a chance to get to know you :)
