Checking out the competition pool
Yesterday, we said goodbye to our old friends at the Four Points Sheridan and the Kardinia Training center in Geelong and moved out to our new hotel in Melbourne. It was kind of an ordeal because there was a huge accident in one of the tunnels, and we had to spend a few hours detouring on the bus. I was a little motion sick by the time we got off the bus to check out the competition venue, but I was soon cured of that by the awesomeness of the pool.
All I can say is, “WOW!” This pool is amazing. It’s super deep, the lane lines are great, and it was built at center court in Rod Laver Arena — the site of the Australian Open.
The Australians seem to have spared no expense in the construction of the pool and in ensuring that the swimmers have whatever they need to swim fast. It is also pretty funny that they seem to have spared no expense in getting some good footage of the swimmers. There are cameras all over the pool. There is even a tiny little camera sticking up from the lane line between lanes 4 and 5. It kind of reminds me of The Truman Show.
Our new hotel is also pretty great. Definitely one of the nicest I have ever stayed in. Although, I am not sure that the bigger guys on our team would agree since the beds are pretty short even for me.
Still, there is a TV in the bathroom — a room that is nearly the size of my apartment at home.
