Day 1 from Barcelona
Hi. Today’s swimming in Barcelona went really well. I got first in the 50 with a time that was faster than I went at worlds and then I went a respectable time in the 200 with a 2:29 to get third. It wasn’t the most awesome swim, but I was happy with respectable considering how bad it has been recently. In other news, Barcelona has been pretty fun. Last night Kaitlin, Davis, Peter, Andrew and one of their friends from school, Natalie, and I went out to dinner together. We walked for forever and then realized that we were going in the wrong direction. So, for the good of the whole group we made a stop to get chocolate croissants before we continued on to take the Metro in our quest for dinner. I think that the need for food was clouding our judgment and as soon as we had something to eat we got back on track pretty easily.
Our walk was also interesting because as we were heading down a street a huge explosion happened really near us. All of us were ready to drop and cover to save ourselves from terrorists until we noticed that everyone around us was absolutely calm. Apparently, kids light off firecrackers all the time and no one thinks anything of it. I know the sound of those things better than most people (I come from a family that really, really, really loves to celebrate Independence Day) but definitely was not thinking firecracker when I heard that.
We ended up going to the first dinner place we saw after leaving the Metro (by the way, eating dinner at 8 p.m. is really early for here) It was good, but I think that the highlight was Peter’s impression of the bird of paradise mating dance. Maybe the best moment of the trip so far.
Tonight, after finals, Natalie and I went to get some dinner at a restaurant near the hotel. It was really good, and I think that the staff really liked us so they brought us a special treat at the end. I think that we will swim very fast tomorrow.

Well, the staff at that restaurant must have figured out what we all know……..you and Nat are the nicest swimmers/athletes/people on the planet!OH, and the fastest too!
I was thinking about this today at practice, (cuz what else does one do lap after lap?) but you and Nat could beat ALOT of people if just the two of you were on a medley relay team……all the strokes would be covered.
Congrats on the great job in Barcelona Tara!
