On the way to Japan

I’m writing this blog on my way to Japan. I was a little worried that my flight woes would continue because I still didn’t have an assigned seat on the flight until about 20 minutes before we were supposed to take off. Fortunately, things worked out and I even got to sit next to Greg, who got to come on the trip!

In honor of our trip to Japan and an awesome new show that my neighbors, Tim and Kerrie, found, we had Ninja Warrior night the other night. We all got together, ate sushi, and watched Ninja Warrior — an awesome Japanese show. It’s a little like MXC but not quite as silly and without the crazy voice over (they just have subtitles of what the announcers say). It includes several stages of obstacle courses that get harder over time.

Anyway, it is pretty intense since I know a lot of great athletes and I can’t think of a single person who could complete the final men’s challenge. I’m unsure that I could do even the first stage of the women’s competition. There are a lot of Olympians, gold medalists, acrobats, and other people who you would expect to do pretty well at any athletic endeavor but even they struggle with the tasks.

So that was fun. Besides that, my time has been taken up with packing and calling all my family and friends to tell them I am engaged. There was so little time before I left that I didn’t even manage to call everyone.

The strange realization that I am coming to is that even though I understand that getting engaged means that you are planning on getting married I had no idea how quickly things move towards wedding planning. Pretty much the first question out of everyone was “When are you going to have the wedding?” Not to worry though, I’m going to try to prevent the wedding from taking over my life and keep this from becoming a wedding blog.

P.S. When I arrived in Japan I asked about Ninja Warrior. It isn’t called that here but it is a very popular show!
