Pac-10s, a quick visit home, and A WEDDING DRESS!
Wow, I have so much fun stuff to write about. First, I’ll tell you about Pac-10s. It was a super fast meet. Stanford managed to grab second and was only 28 or so points out of first. Even though they would have liked to win, I think that it was a pretty good showing for them. Plus, I think that they will improve a lot going into NCAAs.
Rebecca Soni got swimmer of the meet for her really great breaststroke swims. She went something like 58.9 in the 100 and 1:06.1 in the 200. It was kind of weird for me though because I held a bunch of records (Pac-10, NCAA, American) in those races and people were making kind of a big deal out of it when they were talking to me.
When she didn’t get any of my 100 records someone said to me “Whew, safe for another year.” And they were all sympathetic when she got my Pac-10 meet record in the 200 (she already broken my NCAA record last December). I know that they were just trying to be nice so I just smiled but I was really a little nonplused.
Records get broken all the time. My favorite one, my 100 breast SCM world record, was broken a few years ago. Yeah, I’ll feel a twinge of sadness whenever my American records go but whatever, that’s the way it is. I was really fast for my time in the NCAA and I am happy with that.
Actually, watching her swim made me really proud of what I had accomplished. She is a really fast swimmer, especially in the 200. I never got to watch my own swims live because I was swimming them but I think that I must have dominated my swims just like she did. It was pretty impressive. And, I realized that I must have been a damn good 200 breaststroker when I set my American record at 2:05.7. I always thought that I was a great 100 breaststroker but I know that Soni is awesome at the 200 so I guess that I must have been too.
After all the excitement of Pac-10s I headed back home. It was great to see Greg again because I really missed him. Then, on Sunday Lacey and Dana (who was barely coherent from her encounter with the stomach flu) accompanied me to the dress shop where we bought my wedding dress and veil. I really needed them along for moral support and to reassure me that I was not making a stupid decision. It’s a ways out from my wedding date but I loved that dress and veil and the dress shop was giving me a deal on them.
Afterwards Greg and I were sitting in my apartment kind of bored so we decided to have a personal little dance party in the living room and we kind of decided on our first dance song as well. Even if we change our minds it was still pretty fun.
It has been a really good visit home but now I have to pack up again and get ready to head out to Austin for Long Course American Champs and the encore meet afterwards. I think that it will be fun and I am looking forward to a chance to swim fast.
