Fire Alarm!

This morning, Dana and I were awoken by the fire alarm in our hotel. I was, at first, really confused about what the sound could be. I’m used to the screeching, screaming, can’t-stay-in-your-room-for-fear-of-hearing-damage type of fire alarm from my college days. But I’m not sure a sound sleeper would have even woken up for this alarm. It was really a rather pleasant sound. Anyway, there was no fire. The alarm stopped just as we were about to head outside.
The Texas meet went pretty well. I didn’t swim amazingly but things were decent. I’m not rested but in the past, I’ve been able to swim fast in the Spring so I was hoping that something special would just randomly happen. On the first day I got 7th in both the 100 fly (1:01.79 best time!) and 50 free (26.97 tied my best time). I had high hopes for the 100 breaststroke on the second day but I only went 1:07.34. It was a pool record but I thought that I was going to be able to go faster. At least I won and the prize money is going to be enough to pay for the hotel and flights. On the third day I managed to win the 200. It was three fourths of a pretty good swim but I kind of ate it at the end. Still, it was a 2:28.22 which isn’t that bad.
Tonight we had to say goodbye to our buddies from the Santa Clara Swim Club. They are going home tomorrow while Dana and I will be swimming the encore meet. I’m pretty excited for the meet but I was sad to find out that I won’t be able to swim the 100 IM.
Seriously, I am good at that event. People don’t really believe me but I am. Unfortunately, it was too close to the 50 breaststroke. I probably have a much better chance of doing something special in that event than the IM. So the world is going to have to wait to see my shockingly fast 100 IM. Ok, to bed with me. I’m tired.
