From the Pool

Santa Clara

The Santa Clara swim meet last weekend went ok but not great. I guess considering how busy I’ve been it was fine. My parents were also in town, which was good. It is fun to hang out with them and eat good food.

On the first day I went something like 2:32 in the 200 breast – not great, but I think that I need to be more aggressive on the front end of that race in order to be in the right gear. So at least I learned something. I swam pretty well in the 100 fly and was pretty much right on top of my best time.

I won the 100 breast on the second day and that was good. But the time, 1:08, wasn’t a time that I was super excited about. Still, I guess I can’t be that disappointed with a win. I watched the video of the swim and it was pretty clear that my legs were not giving me anything. It looked like I was pulling with my legs tied together. At least pop on my kick is one thing that will come around with rest so I am not too worried about that.

On the last day I swam the 200 IM and the 50 free (I swam in breaststroke) in the morning. They weren’t awesome but if they had been I would have been seriously concerned about my other swims.

On Monday I had my last media day until after Trials. After swimming in the AM, I flew down to LA for the day and shot a commercial for Johnson and Johnson Baby. It was pretty interesting but the best part is that now I am officially done with all cameras. I’m only allowing one or two more print interviews and if any pictures are required it will have to come from stock photos.

I didn’t have to make this media cut-off last time around but I think that it is necessary now because things have started to get a little crazy. It is time to clear the clutter from my life, relax, and prepare. Greg, Dana and I have an important family event to attend this weekend that has suddenly come up but after this I am looking forward to settling back into my normal routine.
